How long since you had a comprehensive balance test?

The results of vestibular function tests (or balance tests) of those with dizziness and/or vertigo will vary according to the disease. In Meniere’s, for example, the test results depend on the stage of the disease. They may be completely normal in the initial stages but as the disease progresses there may be permanent damage in different parts of the organs. That’s why vestibular function tests are mandatory for the appropriate management of any balance disorder.

Knowing the status of your balance organs also helps to predict, if, when, and how you may lose your balance. It’s a fact that these test results will not help predict when a vertigo attack is likely to occur, but they’ll provide you with knowledge and awareness of what head or body movements are likely to affect your balance and stability.

Customized exercises that take advantage of brain plasticity can help to improve balance function, but they should only be prescribed based on accurate test results.
